Mostly good, but watch the forex spreads!

so I switched to Questrade from RBC Direct Investing cuz I heard their fees were way lower, and for the most part, they totally are! my regular stock trades are like a fraction of what I used to pay, and QuestMobile is pretty decent for checking my stuff on the go. but man, the forex trading spreads can be a bit brutal sometimes. I was looking at a EUR/USD trade and it felt like I was losing about 0.0002 before I even started. still, overall, a solid choice for investing! I'd recommend it to friends, just be smart about the currency conversions. 😊

Smooth setup, useful tools

I recently set up a Self-Directed Investing account and bought some ETFs. The account opening process was entirely online and surprisingly quick, taking about two days to get fully verified after I uploaded my documents. Funding was easy to link to my bank. I used QuestMobile for my first few trades; it's quite intuitive for a mobile app. The real-time data package I opted for was helpful in making my decisions. Delivery isn't really applicable here, but the account access was immediate once funded. Support was responsive when I had a question about market data subscriptions, which was a plus. Quality of the platform overall feels robust, and it's easy to navigate between different sections. Very pleased with the experience so far.

Consistently reliable platform

I've opened another TFSA Account with Questrade and it was just as smooth as my previous RRSP setup. The platform is familiar and I appreciate the consistent interface for managing my investments. It's why I keep coming back.

Mostly good, minor hiccup

I transferred my old LIRA Account over to Questrade, and the process was mostly smooth. The transfer fee rebate was a big plus. Customer service was helpful when I had questions about the transfer status, though it did take about a week longer than I expected for the funds to fully settle. The Questwealth Portfolios look promising, but I haven't fully explored them yet. Overall, a good experience, but the transfer time could have been quicker.

Good value for new account

As a first-time buyer, I was looking for the best deal. I got the new account promotion with $50 in free trades, which was a nice perk. The process to open my Individual Margin Account was straightforward, and the fees seem much lower than what I've seen elsewhere. Overall, it felt like a smart financial move.

Easy to get started

I finally got around to opening an RRSP Account with Questrade. It was pretty easy, just filled out some forms online. I bought some stocks and it all went through without a hitch. It felt less complicated than I thought it would be, which is good. No complaints here.

Love my new TFSA!

Just opened my new TFSA Account with Questrade and I'm so happy! It was super easy to set up and I love how straightforward the platform is. I already bought some GICs and it was a breeze. Definitely planning to add more funds soon!

How long does it typically take to get money into a Questrade account once I send it? Need to invest some funds soon.

F Faith Osei 2 months ago
If you're doing an electronic funds transfer (EFT) from your bank, it can take a few business days, like 3-5 sometimes. Wire transfers are faster but usually have a fee.

Mine usually takes about 2-3 business days with an EFT. If it's your first deposit, it might take a tiny bit longer for initial setup stuff.

Hey, thinking of opening a Questrade account. Are they good for TFSA investing or should I just stick with my bank?

J Julia R. 2 months ago
Yeah, I use them for my TFSA. Fees are way lower than the big banks, especially if you're buying ETFs. Much better for long-term growth.

I moved my TFSA over last year. It was pretty smooth. You get more control and the trading fees are minimal if you're doing ETFs. Just watch out for commission on stocks if you're actively trading.

Does Questrade have any current deals for new accounts? Thinking about moving my stuff from TD but want to make sure I get the best offer.

M Mark 2 months ago
They usually have something for new accounts, like $50 in free trades or a cash bonus depending on how much you deposit. Check their site, it changes.

I got $50 in free trades when I signed up a few months ago. Also, they usually cover transfer fees from other institutions, which is nice if you're moving a big account.

Can you use Questrade if you're an American citizen living in Canada?

C Cleo 1 month ago
I don't think so, usually, these Canadian platforms are for Canadian residents. You might want to check their specific policy, but I've heard it's tricky for US citizens due to tax reporting.

B Ben Vargas 1 month ago
Nah, pretty sure they don't support US citizens, even if you're living in Canada. It's because of IRS rules and stuff. You'll likely need to find a US-based brokerage.

Is there a minimum amount you need to open an account with Questrade?

D Dan 1 month ago
I think for a regular self-directed account, it's $1,000. For Questwealth Portfolios, it's also $1,000. Some accounts might be less, but that's generally the starting point.

Yeah, it's usually a grand to actually start trading or get a managed portfolio. You can open the account with less but won't be able to do much until it hits $1000.
